Things to remember before installing Plugins. In order to use plugins, you will need to use self-hosted WordPress.org. Why? it is because WordPress.com has its limitations in functionality. In this guide, we will be using two easiest methods to install WordPress plugin.

Method 1: Install a Plugin using WordPress Plugin Search

This option is the most easiest method to install WordPress plugin using search. However, you can only use this guide for free plugins that are listed in the WordPress plugin directory.

The first thing you need to do is go to your WordPress admin dashboard and click on Plugins » Add New.

On the next screen, you will see a variety of popular plugins as default. Find the plugin that you need, by typing the plugin name in the search box. Like what we did. Then you will see a bunch of listing plugins like the example below.

As you can see in this guide, we’re looking for Contact Form 7 as our search. After you find the plugin you are looking for, go ahead and click the Install Now button.

Lastly, now WordPress is will now download and install the plugin for you. After that, you will see the activate button. Go ahead and click Activate button.

Once the plugin is installed and has been activated, you will see a success message like the one in the screenshot below.

That’s all, you have successfully installed WordPress plugin using search method.

Method 2: Install a Plugin using the WordPress Plugin Upload

Note: This method is for Paid plugins that are NOT listed in the WordPress plugin directory or from the outside source and commercial theme provider.

First, you need to download the plugin from the source (It should be a .zip file). Let’s say that you have already downloaded the plugin. Go ahead and follow along.

Next, go to your WordPress admin dashboard and hover Plugins » Add New.

After that, click on the Upload Plugin button on top of the page.

You will be brought to plugin upload page. Click choose file button and select the plugin file (.zip) you downloaded earlier to your computer. After you have selected the file, you need to click on the Install Now button.

Lastly, WordPress will now upload the plugin file from your computer and install it for you. Then you will see a success message like “Plugin installed successfully” after installation is finished. You need to click on the Activate Plugin button to use the plugin.
